A student-led nano-brewery, & a charity for the next generation of Australian scientists.

Brewlab Holdings Incorporated is an ACNC-registered charity at Monash University's Clayton campus. We exist for one reason: to give young Victorians aged 15 to under 25 rigorous, hands-on education in fermentation science, brewing engineering and product design.

Our purpose

Practical science, taught hands-on, in a field most young Australians never get to touch.

Fermentation is one of the world's oldest sciences and a foundation of Australia's food, beverage and biotechnology sectors. Yet most young Australians never get near it. Careers in fermentation science, food technology, mechanical and chemical engineering, microbiology, and sensory analysis remain invisible.

Brewlab exists to change that. Our charity operates an educational nano-brewery — a research-grade facility at Monash University's Clayton campus — where students from any discipline can roll up their sleeves and learn how an entire production system actually works, from raw grain to finished product.

Every Brewlab program is educational. We do not sell, market or promote alcohol to the public.

Who we exist for

One beneficiary group. Young Victorians, 15 to under 25.

Brewlab serves a single, ACNC-registered beneficiary class: young Australians. Most of our participants are current Monash University students, but we also welcome senior secondary, TAFE and VET-pathway students from across Victoria.

Compliance & transparency

An ACNC-registered charity, run by volunteers, for the benefit of young Victorians.

Brewlab Holdings Inc is incorporated in Victoria and registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. Our governing committee is unpaid, our activities are educational, and revenue is reinvested in delivering our charitable purpose.

Because our charitable beneficiaries are young people, we apply child-safe practices, alcohol-responsible service principles, and strict program rules: participants under 18 work only with non-alcoholic ferments, and adult participants engage with brewing strictly within an educational and research context.
